How can you Lose Fat without devastating your Body This Winter

As per Ayurveda, the next two months are the months of nourishing the body. A time to build strength rather than depriving yourself in turn inviting more diseases. 

Here is why you should be focusing on Mindful Balanced Diet and not just Calorie Deficit Diet to achieve Fat Loss: 

  • Building Mode: The body’s requirement increases owing to the dropping temperature. Due to lower environmental temperature, the body has the tendency of using more calories to maintain its core temperature and focus on building, repairing and nourishing the system.
  • Strong Digestive Fire: The digestive fire is much stronger than any other time of the year. Higher the digestive fire, higher the strength to digest, resulting in higher absorption of the body.

Now if the body’s requirement is not met with the balanced supply of nutrients, the body starts breaking its bodily reserves, muscles, organs and bodily constitution to meet them resulting in illnesses. It is no wonder that a lot of individuals over the period experience complains like 

  • Bodily pains
  • Sudden Hairfall and skin problems

  • Focus on 3 Tastes: the three flavours that are naturally nourishing  are sweet, salty and sour. And these are the main tastes that one needs to focus on when one is trying to nourish. The situation might differ if you are already suffering from conditions like PCOS, Arthritis, 
  • Warming Foods: Foods that are naturally warm in nature and foods that are freshly cooked. This time of the year when the temperture is lowering, the warm foods can greatly help in regulating the temperature and balancing the Doshas ( Vata- the airy characteristic of the body). Every Food ingredient is either warming or cooling in nature. (eg. wheat is coolin in  nature as opposed to bajra that is warm in nature) 
  • Spices that are warming as per season: eg at this time, including spices like cinnamon, turmeric, back pepper and cloves. 
  • Abhyanga: Oleation ( also called Snehana in Ayurveda) is one of the methods that is extremely useful when you are trying to detox, remove toxins and just ensure the body is pampered/ well serviced to perform its functions. Based on the season, you can select the oils and gently massage before a quick shower. e.g sesame oil or almonds during winters, coconut oil during summers, and mustard during the monsoons.
